ENGAGE XR to enter liquidation after losing its largest customer
Simulated-people products in other fields — what works, what fails · Wednesday, 2 September 2026
Why it matters
The shutdown shows that even a differentiated simulated-person experience can disappear when its platform-level enterprise economics fail. For Spont, it highlights the need to separate persona assets and user value from a fragile host business, while treating distribution, recurring demand, and post-shutdown continuity as part of persona-product design.
What happened
ENGAGE XR Holdings said its largest customer will not take any further licences, eliminating expected contract revenue and leaving the company unable to meet its financial obligations. The Irish company’s board has therefore decided to pursue a court-approved liquidation and requested suspension of its AIM-listed shares, warning that shareholders are unlikely to receive any return. Its educational VR platform was still hosting the School of AI, including interactive historical figures such as Joan of Arc, Marie Curie, and Harriet Tubman, but access may end abruptly as the liquidation proceeds.
