Saber faces backlash over undisclosed AI passenger dialogue in Rideshare Simulator
Simulated-people products in other fields — what works, what fails · Wednesday, 2 September 2026
Why it matters
The dispute offers a direct warning for believable simulated characters: audiences may tolerate bounded AI experimentation more readily when the product clearly distinguishes authored narrative from generated interaction. It also shows how unclear credits and missing disclosure can turn an NPC feature into a broader credibility crisis.
What happened
Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch denied that AI replaced the studio’s human scriptwriters after former lead writer Stella Sacco alleged that ChatGPT had taken over parts of production. Karch said the game’s narrative was written by humans, while acknowledging an experimental free-ride mode that generates infinite passenger interactions with AI. The game’s trailer appears to show AI-generated dialogue and voice acting, but its Steam page reportedly does not disclose that use, shifting the dispute toward transparency and player trust.
