Juvenile homicide cases in Spain have stayed above 100 a year since 2022

Why it matters
The official counts indicate that juvenile lethal violence has remained substantially above the 2021 level across several reporting years, making this more than a single-case news cycle. The under-14 figure could signal a shift toward younger offending, but the Fiscalía's data-quality warning means that interpretation needs confirmation in subsequent reports.
What happened
Spain's Fiscalía General del Estado recorded 88 homicides and murders committed by minors in 2021, 101 in 2022, 120 in 2024 and 100 in 2025, keeping the annual count above 100 since 2022 despite the latest decline. Its latest report also recorded 7,749 cases closed because the alleged offender was under 14, up 74.21% from the previous year, but warned that technical errors in the 2024 data make that increase difficult to interpret. Criminologists interviewed for the report say violent offending is appearing at younger ages and that knives are again more common in youth violence; those explanations and the proposed role of social media remain expert assessments rather than findings established by the figures.
